Elant at Wappingers Falls Elderact Club offers community thanks

Wappingers Falls, N.Y. – The Elant at Wappingers Falls Elderact Club expressed its gratitude for ongoing assistance and support to Village of Wappingers Falls officials on Aug. 11 by presenting several “goody trays” to honored guests at Elant’s Mesier Avenue facility. Some of those included Mayor Matt Alexander and Police Commissioner Carl Calabrese.

“It was a great opportunity for me to meet more of the residents and to see how Elderact really operates,” said Alexander. “We are incredibly grateful to have Elant here, especially considering that we have the second-highest density of seniors and handicapped in Dutchess County.”

In the past, the Mayor’s Office has helped to coordinate Elant at Wappingers’ “Picnic in the Park” festivities held several times a year for residents, and the Village Police have lent a hand by bringing traffic to a halt so that the Elant residents, some in wheel chairs, can get safely across the street to the park. Even the Village Fire Department has offered frequent support to residents.

“It feels good to be part of a small community like this and to know that the help is always there,” said Wappingers Falls Elderact President Anita Zapata. “We thought it was important that we share that appreciation, and to let the community know that we’re here to help too, in any way we can.”

During the August 11 event, upcoming collaborative projects with the village and Elant at Wappingers Falls Elderact were discussed, and included a school supply drive (both the mayor’s office and the police department will display collection boxes in their lobbies) and a gift-wrapping effort for the tree lighting festivities held at Mesier Park in December.

The Elant at Wappingers Falls Elderact Club, sponsored by the Rotary Club of Wappingers Falls, is the first-ever Elderact Club in the United States. It is designed to provide opportunities for Elant residents to volunteer and give back to their communities.
