Fishkill, N.Y. - Nov. 23, 2009 - A Veterans Day luncheon held at Elant at Fishkill recently reunited two members of the same Army infantry division, both of whom – coincidentally - now call Elant home.
Virgil Kreider, originally from Morgan, La., and Hugh Macleod, originally from New Rochelle, N.Y., were both drafted into the 36th Infantry Division of the U.S. Army in 1942 in the midst of World War II. To hear them tell it, their tour included “walking and fighting” in such places as Africa, Italy, and Paris, France. Now ages 88 and 89, the two men just happened to be seated at the same table for the Veteran’s Day Luncheon, attended by roughly 70 people. The pair enjoyed lunch and some reminiscing about the past.
What a small world it is, that two young soldiers that fought in the same division in a very large Army, would reconnect in the golden years of their life at Elant at Fishkill. |
