Congresswoman pledges support of Medicaid and Medicare programs
Fishkill, N.Y. (September 2, 2011) – U.S. Rep. Nan Hayworth visited with residents and toured Elant at Fishkill on Friday, Sept. 2. Hayworth discussed her support for senior citizens and the need for preserving Medicaid and Medicare for people ages 55 and older.
“Elant at Fishkill has been a nursing facility for more than 30 years,” the Congresswoman said. “The residents are well cared for and happy to be here. But the increasing challenge now is that more and more Baby Boomers are entering their senior years. As a legislator and as a doctor I will do everything I can to assure that there are the Medicaid and Medicare resources available to care for these residents and their families.”
Hayworth toured with Nicholas Lanza, Elant’s Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer; George Michaels, Vice President and Executive Director of Elant at Fishkill; Patricia Long, Director of Nursing at Elant at Fishkill, among others. Hayworth had the opportunity to listen to and to meet residents.
“We need to make sure government respects the families – the working-class families and the middle-class – when looking at how people are facing the financial and day-to-day challenges of having a family member who is in a nursing facility,” Hayworth said.
“Congresswoman Hayworth understands how long-term care serves such a vital role in the community,” said Melissa McCoy, Director of Corporate Initiatives with Elant Inc. and the Elant Foundation. “It is a role that will be growing as our Baby Boomers age and there is a growing demand for the high level of skilled nursing care required for discharged hospital patients. We appreciate the Congresswoman’s visit to Elant at Fishkill today to address the importance of maintaining both funding and Medicaid and Medicare programs to help our elderly.”
